About

MyDanceDietitian is the UK’s specialist in nutrition for dancers. Led by Registered Dietitian, Sports Nutritionist and former professional dancer Sarah Smales, we provide evidence-based support to help dancers fuel performance, reduce injury risk and develop a positive relationship with food. From workshops and webinars to consultancy and 1:1 support, we empower dancers, teachers and organisations to reach their full potential.

Hi, I’m Sarah.

After 10 years working as a professional dancer, dance captain and production manager, I retrained as a Registered Dietitian. My varied dietetic experience includes working as a Specialist Dietitian within the NHS, from adult acute hospital settings through to supporting adolescents and their families within eating disorder services.

My combined passion for dance and nutrition led me to complete my postgraduate training in Sports and Exercise Nutrition, where I was named on the Dean’s List for academic achievement. Today, I combine evidence-based nutrition, eating disorder-informed practice and a deep understanding of the dance world to support dancers, teachers and organisations in creating positive, nourishing environments where performers can thrive.

Having experienced the demands of dance training and performance firsthand, I understand the challenges dancers face when it comes to fuelling, recovery, body image and balancing performance with wellbeing. My approach is practical, compassionate and grounded in the latest evidence, helping dancers build confidence in their nutrition and develop sustainable habits that support both health and performance.
